I remember ten years ago when the first Halo game arrived for the original XBox console. It was the most superior first-person shooter at that time, and paved the way for a new revolution in action gaming. Over the years, with the competition being huge with many greats like Gears of War and Call of Duty, Halo has lost some of its former glory as it is no longer a "stand alone", one of a kind experience. The big mistake for this franchise (in my opinion) was when Halo 3 was introduced to the XBox 360 console. People were expecting another revolutionary title, as this was the first Halo game on the new system, but unfortunately for many fans, it just seemed like more of the same experience. The competition capitalized on this, coming up with new innovative ideas to enhance the gaming experience, and the Halo franchise nearly fell through the crevices. Not long ago, Halo Reach arrived. For those of you who have lost interest in Halo and never played Reach, I implore you to play this game! Most of the problems with Halo have been fixed, and this game is a prequel to the series offering a fantastic experience with new characters, non stop action, and a very compelling story explaining the beginning of it all!
So the big question is: Will Halo 4 live up to the hype and reach its selective target market? And will this commercial help to entice people to purchase an XBox 360 in order to play Halo?
I can tell you this. If you are a fan of this franchise, then there is no doubt that this commercial will have you excited for this game. With breathtaking visuals, the heart beating sound effects, and the ships AI waking up the Master Chief (that's right, he's back!) as the spaceship is being torn apart, the only thing disappointing to me is the fact that I have to wait until next year to play it!
This commercial not only gives you the awareness that you need, but informs you on when you will be able to take action with your purchase. This is a perfect example of a business with a selective target market. As Bungie is well aware, this commercial is not for everyone. It is specifically meant to target the fans of the franchise as well as other gamer's who may be interested. The scene is exciting, and I believe it's a great way to persuade people to purchase the product in order to experience the adventure!
